These underground river systems have guarded the secrets of the Mayan culture and are considered a source of life, sacred enclaves, and gateways to Xibalba, the Mayan underworld for centuries.<\/p>\n
There are about 15,000 cenotes in the area, mostly divided between the two largest flooded cave systems or underground rivers in the world (Ox Bel Ha and Sac Actun), and they are the most significant and unique ecotourism attraction in Mexico, drawing adventurers and nature lovers alike.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
