Is it necessary to have previous experience to dive in the Caribbean and cenotes?

No previous experience is required to dive in these locations. You can start with the Discover Scuba Diving experience, also known as a try dive, or jump straight into the PADI Open Water diving course, which will teach you the basics of diving and allow you to obtain an international certification.

What is the minimum age to start diving?

The minimum age to start diving is 10 years old.

What do the dives include?

All fun dives include boat (or cenote entrance fee), private transportation in Playa del Carmen, full dive equipment, private instructor/guide, drinks and fruit/snacks.
All courses include boat, private transportation in Playa del Carmen, eLearning, confined and open water training, full dive equipment, private instructor, drinks, fruit/snacks and international PADI eCard PADI certification.

What does REPUBLICA offer with private services?

We offer the option of private experiences in courses, fun dives and snorkel.
When you book online you will find options and daily prices for private boats of different capacities for experiences in the Caribbean, and private full cave guides for the cenotes.

Can non-divers join the experience?

Of course, just let us know in advance and we will organize the plan to combine snorkeling and diving, or organize a Discover Scuba Diving experience, both in the Caribbean and in the cenotes.

I haven't been diving for a while, does my diving certification expire?

Your scuba certification never expires, but after a period of inactivity, you’ll need to brush up on your basic scuba skills, safety procedures, and get comfortable in the water again.
That’s why we recommend booking the PADI Reactivate Scuba Refresh program.

Can you take photos of me while I'm diving?

At República we prioritize safety, and that is why our guide cannot act as a photographer.
However, we offer the option of renting a GoPro or having a professional photographer accompany us during our dives, both options have an extra cost. Regarding the cenotes and because they are private properties, some cenotes do not allow entry with cameras and others charge an extra fee for the use of these in their facilities.

Where is the diving center? Where do we meet?

To simplify and facilitate logistics, we simply need to know where you are staying. Once we know the hotel, AirBnb or address of the accommodation, we will take care of everything else and pick you up in Playa del Carmen or the surrounding area, with all the equipment ready to go diving or snorkeling.

Do I need to fill out a medical questionnaire?

Yes, to go diving and/or snorkelling with us, you will need to fill out a medical questionnaire and be eligible for the activity. If you have any questions, we have a 24/7 hyperbaric doctor available to consult.

Do I need diving insurance?

In Mexico, it is not mandatory to have a valid diving insurance to dive. However, we recommend having diving insurance for greater peace of mind during your vacation. You can purchase it with DAN World by clicking here.

Can I fly after diving?

After a dive, it is recommended to wait at least 12 hours before flying and 18 to 24 hours after several dives a day or several days of diving.

What is a cenote?

Cenotes are natural caverns flooded with water hidden in the jungle of the Yucatan Peninsula. These underground river systems have guarded the secrets of Mayan culture and are considered a source of life, sacred enclaves and gateways to Xibalba, the Mayan underworld.

What is cenote diving like? What level do I need?

When diving in a covered environment such as a cave, there is a barrier between the diver and the surface and that is why we have different safety rules and the guide is certified as a Full Cave Diver.
In addition, as Open Water Diver, we can dive in many caves in the Riviera Maya as long as we have good buoyancy control.
